MK Dons manager Mike Williamson praised his sides determination as they leapfrogged Morecambe in the League Two table with victory at the Mazuma Stadium. But the visitors, who have been revitalised since Williamson took over from Graham Alexander, struck first as Dean ran on to Alex Gilbeys defence-splitting through-ball before rounding Adam Smith and scoring. Morecambe hit back with a McKiernan header from Adam Mayors left-wing cro s five minutes into the second half and from there the home side looked the more threatening until Tomlinson scored with a well-struck effort from just outside the box that beat Smith to his left. Morecambe manager Ged Brannan was unhappy with his sides performance as they suffered their second home defeat of the season. He said: We knew exactly how they would play and we had a game plan but didnt follow it. In the first half we didnt pre s and we didnt go with runners and they popped us all over the pitch. We had to have a really good chat at half-time and we got ourselves back in the game and were pre sing really well but when they went ahead again against the run of play we dropped off them again, which was not like us and disappointing.

Derby manager Paul Warne watched his players reward him for giving them Christmas Day off as they picked up a 1-0 victory at League One strugglers Wigan. Curtis Nelson headed home the only goal in the 19th minute, but only the brilliance of Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle kept the scoreline respectable. And Warne whose side have now won seven of their last eight matches was a happy man after subjecting one of his former clubs to a third defeat on the spin. It was the most pleasing performance of the season, because it was away from home against good opposition and probably the best weve played collectively, he said. It kind of felt like two performances in one game, one in each half, he a se sed. But I cant be too critical of the players in that first half, I have to take that one. I think I was over-reliant on too many young players in that first half. Those young players have been brilliant for me and this football club since Ive been here, and theyll definitely come again, thats for sure. Derby are a really good side, good squad, very experienced, a match for anyone at this level. Normally when youre bringing young players in, youre wanting to drip them in, when the team is in good form. In the second half apart from the first five minutes, when they had a couple of chances I felt it was much better. It felt like we went toe to toe with Derby, and there wasnt much between the two teams in the second half.
